Aldona Talcott

d. November 10, 2008

Aldona Ruth Talcott of Tunkhannock died Saturday in the Golden Living Center, Tunkhannock, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Her husband of 65 years, Daniel, died on March 21. Born in Scranton on April 21, 1925, daughter of the late John and Agnes Yanaushaskaus Falett, Ruth was an accomplished farmer's wife working alongside her husband. She worked for more than 30 years at the Endicott Johnson Shoe Co., where she was recognized for her impeccable work and production ability. She also worked for the Tunkhannock School District. Ruth lived her life through a loving heart. She was a mother to every child, no matter who it was. She assumed a yoke of motherhood very early in life to a very large pre-established family. She bore that yoke with little complaint and a sense of joy. Her true humility, knowing who you are and being happy and serving there was her true gift to all. Ruth served all whose lives she touched. According to her grandchildren, she was the hardest working woman ever known. No one was ever turned away, or went hungry if they came to her door. Surviving are two daughters, Diana deFreitas, Scranton; and Nancy Warner Loyd, Meshoppen; five grandchildren, Danielle deFreitas Passon, Houston, Texas; David J. deFreitas, Scranton; Nick C. Warner, Oswego, N.Y.; Wendy Warner, Tunkhannock; and Edward Warner, Montrose; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Mitchell, Elizabeth Krachum, Anna August and Margaret Russol; and five brothers, Joseph and William Palutis, Andrew, Peter and Paul Yessul. Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth and Daniel will be Wednesday at noon at the Church of Nativity BVM, Tunkhannock. Interment, Pieta Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Friends may call Wednesday, 9 a.m. until time of service, at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock.
