Mary-Jean Alice (Lilly) Turner of Tunkhannock, formerly of Wellsboro, died Friday October 31, 2008 at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Francis C. Turner. She was born in Saegertown, PA on January 9, 1926 daughter of the late Samuel B. Lilly and Opal Jane Writer Lilly. She was a 1943 graduate of Saegertown High School and received a BA in Education from Penn State University in 1948. She taught in the Warriors Mark School District in 1948-49 and was a substitute teacher in the Wellsboro School District. Upon relocating to Tunkhannock in 1968 she was also a substitute teacher in the Tunkhannock Area School District. She was a life member of the Eastern Star of Wellsboro, a member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women and served on various church committees. She is survived by her son Samuel C. Turner of Tunkhannock; daughter Susan Jean Turner and her husband Larry H Benninger of Saegertown; grandchildren and their spouses Andrew and Lisa Benninger of Conneaut Lake; Dr Kathryn and Sonny Giroux of Pittsburgh; Timothy Benninger of Pittsburgh and Gregory Benninger of Alexander, VA. Three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Giroux, and Adelaide and Gordon Benninger. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 4th at The Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 West Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA. at 11 am with Rev. Craig C. Gomer. Interment will be in Saegertown Cemetery, Saegertown PA at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Monday, November 3rd from 7 – 9 pm at the funeral home.
