Our family gained another angel - Ada Blanche Crone Harvey, 96, of Tunkhannock, passed away peacefully on Saturday night, April 13, 2024, just 16 days shy of her 97th birthday, which would really annoy her. Ada had a life goal to live to 100, but God had other plans.
Born in Northmoreland Township, PA on April 29, 1927, she was the daughter of the late George W. Crone and Minnie Blanche Weaver Crone Hicks.
Ada's life is truly a miracle - she survived polio at 4, an ovarian cancer diagnosis, surgery and recovery at age 69 (she was given 3 months to live!), a bowel perforation at 86, losing her beloved daughter Betty in 2000 and later, the love of her life, Eben, husband of 71 years, in 2017. But Ada's strong will, courage, tremendous strength, love of family and belief in God kept Ada moving forward, blessed to see each new day dawn before her.
Throughout her life, Ada was a worker: a caregiver for her many siblings; a King Red Carnival worker, embroidering names on hats; a seamstress; Endicott-Johnson shoe factory employee; an owner and operator with her husband of Harvey's Sanitation, which served Tunkhannock and the surrounding communities for over 30 years; a business manager of Endless Mountain Disposal; a Tyler Memorial Hospital volunteer; and a cashier at Brick's Market, where she made many friends and prided herself on being the most popular cashier in the store!
In fact, Ada was very proud of the fact that she worked at Brick's Market from 1996 until she was 83 ½ years old (not just 83) and after her husband died, she lived independently until she was 94. This grit and determination exemplified the "Greatest Generation" of which she was a part of (and personified all of its very best qualities).
Ada had many talents but especially loved sewing, both personally making her own clothes and professionally, working as a seamstress until late in her 80s, gardening, reading her bible, and of course, spending time with her family. She loved cheering them on from the sidelines in all of their endeavors, especially sporting events and dance recitals. Ada never wanted to miss a moment!
Besides her great-grandchildren: Sophie, Jack and Ian Burke and Piper Podlaski, Ada is survived by her grandchildren Anthony and Tammy Podlaski of Carlisle, PA, and Angeline (Podlaski) and John Burke of Tunkhannock and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her daughter Betty, her husband Eben, and beloved son-in-law Stanley J. Podlaski, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters - the last "surviving" Crone.
We would like to thank the fantastic staff at The Gardens of Tunkhannock for your love, care, and compassion for Ada these past 2 years- she truly felt safe and loved under your care - we are forever grateful!
Family and friends are invited to attend Ada's Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 10:00AM from the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 99 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.
