Alice Virginia Suwak, of Newton Township, passed away in Scranton on Thursday afternoon after casting a 72-year-long arc of laughter and love across the sky and leaving wildflowers in her wake. She spent her final days surrounded by family and cracking jokes. She was the widow of Walter Suwak (died January 10, 1977) and Jeffery Rosencrance (died August 25, 1992).
Born March 30, 1951, in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, she was daughter to the late Elwood and Barbara Van Sise. Prior to retirement, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Alice enjoyed growing her own vegetables and being close to the pulse of nature. She spent many hours cruising wooded lanes blaring John Denver's "Country Roads." She loved literature, music, and low-budget horror movies. She drew joy from the simple moments of life, laughing endlessly at cats chasing their own tails and dogs doing zoomies. She found humor in the foibles and foolishness of human existence. Her exploits in absentmindedness will echo through the halls of eternity forever.
If Alice's wisdom could be summed up in one sentence, it would be this: Take nothing in life too seriously—nothing, except love.
Surviving are children Jill, Jeffery, Matthew and wife Katy, Sarah, Jennifer and husband Matthew Schlittler; step-daughter Kim Rosencrance Owens; grandchildren Emily, Logan, Charlotte, Mady, and Mason; sisters Effie Taft, Barbara Almeida, and Susan Oliver; nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by sister Peggy Koenig and brothers George and Elwood.
