Listen to Obituary

Allan Howard Myers, 80, of Ransom Township, died  June 19, 2022 at Abington Manor after a brief illness.

He was the son of the late Howard and Gail Myers of Scranton.

He is survived by Pat, his wife of 28 years; six sons, Allan Jr and wife Sharon of Falls; Scott and wife Susan of Collingswood, NJ; Mark and wife Ellen of Clarks Summit; Dean and wife Donna of Newton Township, Ron and wife Christy of Pittsburgh; and Doug and wife Elke of Nicholson; two stepsons, Scott Bird and wife Brooke of Florida; and Jason Bird of Newton Township.  Al was "POPS" to 22 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a brother Howard and wife Virginia of Scranton, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pam and Dave Bird, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, William of McAdo and Theron of Pittsburgh; and two nephews, LeRoy and Steven Myers of Scranton.

Following retirement, he continued to drive school bus for the Abington Heights School District, which he had done for over 37 years and, as he described, was the most enjoyable job he ever had. Al was elected Supervisor of Ransom Township in 2017 to represent the residents, most of which were family and long-time friends. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren, attending their sporting events, as well as NASCAR racing, classic car shows and traveling.  He was always the first person to reach out to all of his fellow West Scranton High School graduates to plan reunions and get-togethers; and the first one to make plans for breakfast with friends and relatives from Tunkhannock.  Al would always say "I know no strangers, only friends I haven't met yet".

The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Carl Barsigian and staff; Dr. Christopher Peters and staff; Dr. Edward Stadtmauer of Philadelphia and staff; Staff of GCMC and Jamie and her staff at Abington Manor for the care and compassion shown to Al and his family during these past few months.
