Listen to Obituary

Annette Bienkowski Horchos , our beloved wife and mother, passed away on April 5, 2023.

She was a happy and optimistic person, a lover of biology and nature, an early feminist, lover of classical music, a lifelong reader, and practical in her views on life.

Always a keen pursuer of knowledge, Annette earned degrees from the University of Pennsylvania College for Women (BS, 1959) where she was the president of her sorority, Chi Omega and Rutgers University (MS, embryology, 1962). She was employed by Hahnemann Medical College, Cartera Pharmaceuticals, and was an adjunct instructor at Keystone College in biology and botany (1988-2004).

Annette was born on March 21, 1936, in South River, N.J., to Joseph and Hedwig Solinski Bienkowski. In 1961 she married Dr. Donald Horchos and was proud of her surviving husband, four children, Dr. Carl Horchos (D.D.S.), Dr. John Horchos (D.M.D.), Dr. Paul Horchos (D.O.) and Dr. Mary Horchos (Ph.D.), their spouses, and her nine grandchildren.

Memorial donations to support her love of Polish culture and heritage may be made in Annette's name to the Kosciuszko Foundation.

A private Mass will be held at Church of St. Gregory with interment at Hickory Grove Cemetery.

We feel at peace that she is at rest now.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
