Barbara Deets Pittman died at home on March 7, 2023 after a yearlong medical journey with melanoma. Her family surrounded her with love, fond memories, and plenty of laughter and tears.
Barbara was born and raised in Kingston, PA and married 58 years to a high school classmate John E. Pittman. They have two children: John F. Pittman and Jennifer Wilson Burkhart (Larry) and grandchildren Tyler and Austin Wilson, step granddaughter Courtney Zimmerman (Joe), step grandson Preston Burkhart (Samantha), and four great grandchildren: Lily, Nova, Tatum, and Caden. She is also survived by a brother, Bruce F. Deets.
She was predeceased by her parents, Bruce L. Deets and Minnie Homnick Deets and son-in-law Jeffrey L. Wilson.
Barbara began her working career four days after high school graduation (1960) at Bell Telephone Wilkes-Barre office. Four years later, she left Bell to take care of her two children. She later reentered the work force as an administrative assistant at several local engineering firms. She retired in 1998.
She enjoyed long nature walks, world travel, cooking and fellowship with family and friends. She was thankful for her 50+ years as a member of the Clarks Summit Presbyterian Church family. The church provided her with so many ways to reinforce her baptismal vows. She was involved in the Women's Circle Bible Study, MBK Quilters, and numerous mission outreaches into the community. She treasured her time spent helping those who needed a helping hand.
Barbara's life will be celebrated at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, 300 School Street, Clarks Summit on April 1, 2023. A family greeting will take place at the church from 9:30 am to 10:50 am. The church service will begin at 11:00 am.
