Bernard John Kenia, 78, of Lake Winola, died peacefully at his home Saturday evening after fighting a battle with lung cancer. Born May 13, 1939 to the late John and Josephine Surowiec Kenia of Newton. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Loretta Kuffa Kenia.
Prior to his retirement, Bernie worked for American Asphalt & Paving as a crusher operator. Bernie was a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Church.
Bernie is survived by daughters Cheryl Kolessar, husband Tom, granddaughters Sophie and Alex of Downingtown; Stephanie Kuback, husband George and grandson Garrett of Tunkhannock; Deb Hauser, husband Tim, grandson Brad, granddaughter Riley of Northampton; Allison and Baxton Vaughan of Mebane, North Carolina. Also surviving is sister Bernice Lynch of Nicholson and brother Raymond of Newton.
Bernie's life was full of family, friends and farming. After retirement, Bernie enjoyed mornings at the local diner with friends, playing cards, trips to the casino and just taking it easy.
Funeral services are entrusted to the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc. Tunkhannock, PA. Friends and family are invited to A Celebration of Life service at St. Mary's of Lake on Saturday, May 27 at 10:30AM. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 until the time of service on Saturday. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lake Winola Fire Company.
