Listen to Obituary

Called to heaven to be with her Heavenly Father, Bernice Graff passed away on September 23, 2024 at her home in North Carolina.

Born in Scranton Pennsylvania on November 24, 1939, daughter of the late Stanley and Mary Kostzeski, Bernice was educated in Nativity of Our Lord and South Scranton Catholic High School. She graduated from Marywood College and pursued a teaching career in Scranton, having taught at Madison and Armstrong Schools for many years.

Bernice was a generous person willing to help anyone, especially those students who needed her guidance and direction. Education was her main pursuit in life and she always felt that "what you learned could never be lost." Being an avid reader herself, she believed no one should leave second grade without knowing how to read!

She enjoyed playing a monthly card game with her friends for many years as well as belonging to Allied Services where she engaged in physical therapy, yoga, and various exercises.

She relocated late in life to Youngsville, North Carolina to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Chris Habeeb.

She is survived by one daughter, Aleta Habeeb, Youngsville, North Carolina and was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Graff, with whom she spent fifty-six years, and her son, Major Peter Graff.

She is also survived by four grandchildren, two of whom she resided with: Amelia and Caitlin Habeeb and Mary and Ronald Graff.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Church of St. Gregory 330 N Abington Rd, Clarks Summit. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
