Betty Bomberger, of South Abington Township, died Thursday morning at Willowbrook Place, Clarks Summit. Her husband Bob preceded her in death in 2004.
Born in Lititz, she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Annie Gehman Mundorf. Prior to retirement, she was the co-owner and operator of the Bomberger Funeral Home in North Scranton.
Betty was dearly loved by her family. She made countless special memories with them that will always be cherished. She was world famous for her chocolate peanut butter eggs and made the best crabcakes on the Outer Banks. For decades, she raised and showed German shorthair pointers and several breeds of rabbits. Mr. Wonderful, her American fuzzy lop, was even a national champion. She was a successful businesswoman, expanding her gift shop to several locations across Northeastern Pennsylvania. She loved to host gatherings and decorated for the holidays. She always wore a snazzy outfit and a smile on her face, and was a friend to many. Mud, Grandma, Gigi, you'll be deeply missed. We have all been so blessed to have you in our lives. As you would always say, "Love you all!"
Surviving are her daughter, Mindi and her husband Paul Spear, South Abington; three grandchildren: Jennifer Goldman and her husband Dan of New York, Matthew Spear and his wife Jessica of Plains, and Jeremy Spear and his wife Melissa of Clarks Summit; five great grandchildren: Alexander, Benjamin, and Jacob Goldman and Olivia and Chase Spear; a sister, Sandy Hall and her husband James, Millersville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, John Robert, who died in 1972.
Betty's family would like to especially thank Olivia, Brandon, Georgia, Kate, and all the staff at Willowbrook Place for providing her with such extraordinary and compassionate care. She was truly happy and thought of it as her home.
