Betty Elizabeth Monsey, 94, of Tunkhannock passed away Monday, May 25, 2026, at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Tom Monsey in 2005.
Born on April 24, 1932, in Russell Hill, she is the daughter of the late George and Stella (Whinny) Jenkins.
Raised in a large family of ten children, 5 girls and 5 boys, Betty's early life was marked by a strong work ethic that served her well in all her endeavors. She pursued nursing, earning her Registered Nurse degree from the Scranton State Nursing School on Mulberry Street.
In August of 1961, Betty and her husband made a significant move by purchasing Greenwood's Furniture Store. Betty managed the store's finances, all while raising two children, whom she affectionately described as "almost well behaved." She remained a vital and respected part of the business until the very end.
Betty was also deeply involved in her community and held memberships in several organizations. She was a past member of the Eastern Star, the Tunkhannock Women's Club, and the Tunkhannock Methodist Church, showing her dedication to service and fellowship. Additionally, she served as the Treasurer of the Tunkhannock Business and Professional Association.
She is survived by her son, Mark Monsey and wife Lynne; daughter, Stella Novack and husband Richard; brother, Jack Jenkins; grandchildren, Melissa, Julie, Mary, and John; 3 great grandchildren; a herd of nieces and nephews.
In addition, to her husband, she is preceded in death by 8 of her siblings.
Family and friends are invited to attend Betty's funeral services which will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 12:00 PM from the Marcho, Sheldon, and Kukuchka Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA 18657. Interment will be held in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory can be made to a local church of your choice.
