Betty I. Savickas passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023, just three days shy of her 98th birthday. She is preceded in death by her husband, George who passed away on November 21, 1996.
Betty was born in Tunkhannock, PA, to Geraldine (Ball) Churchill and Howard E. Churchill on September 27, 1925. She graduated from Tunkhannock High School in 1943. On January 18, 1946, Betty and George were married and were married for over 50 years. They had three daughters, Georgene, Sharon, and Tracy.
She will be fondly remembered for her unwavering commitment to justice and her invaluable contributions to the Wyoming County Juvenile Probation office, where she served with distinction until her retirement in 1994.
Betty touched the hearts of all those around her. Her legacy is one filled with precious memories that are sure to bring laughter and warmth to those who hold them dear. Betty had a unique way of brightening up any room she entered with her infectious laughter and genuine smile.
Betty dedicated herself to making a positive impact on the lives of others. She was always there for her family and friends when they needed comfort or support.
Betty had a deep love for music, food, and flowers. She found joy in the simple pleasures life had to offer and never missed an opportunity to indulge in these passions. Whether it was humming along to her favorite tunes or savoring delicious meals shared with loved ones, Betty cherished the beauty that surrounded her.
But beyond her personal interests, Betty's commitment extended far beyond herself. She tirelessly gave her time and energy to causes close to her heart. Her involvement in church activities highlighted her faith and dedication to serving others. Betty was known as a beacon of light in her community, always ready to lend a helping hand or provide words of comfort when needed most.
Betty's proudest accomplishments revolved around the deep love she had for her family. As a devoted spouse, mother, grandmother, and friend, she was steadfast in nurturing these relationships. The care she showered upon her loved ones knew no bounds; their happiness brought immeasurable fulfillment to Betty's life.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Georgene Savickas of Richmond, VA; daughter Sharon Russell (Glenn) of Berrien Springs, MI,; daughter Tracy Atkinson (Jamie) of Stafford, VA; grandchildren Jeremy (Katherin), Erica (Mitsie), Abby (Gavin), Samantha, and great grandchildren Gemma and Cooper.
Her family is especially thankful to the wonderful staff at United Methodist Manor in Tunkhannock as well as the staff at the Wesley Village in Pittston, PA
A Celebration of Betty's life will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 3:00 PM at the Tunkhannock Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1 Shadowbrook Dr., Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
