Brent D. Ransom, 63, of Tunkhannock passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Elisabeth "Lissy" (Pfundt) Ransom.
Born on October 28, 1960 in Meshoppen, he is the son of the late Harold Ransom and Joan (Layaou) Carpenter.
He was a 1978 graduate of Tunkhannock High School. A proud veteran, Brent served in the United States Army from 1978 to 1983, attaining the rank of Sergeant E5 as a combat engineer. During his service, he was stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia, and spent time in Heilbronn, Germany, where he met his wife. He cherished memories of trips back to Germany.
Brent started his career as a residential construction roofer and drywall installer. He then spent 17 years at Cascade in Newton Ransom as a paper maker, followed by an impressive 14 years at Procter and Gamble, where he excelled as a converter technician.
He enjoyed playing various sports, including football, volleyball, golf, and softball, and was a dedicated wrestler for many years. He also cherished time spent hunting and fishing, embodying the essence of an outdoorsman. An expert black powder pistol shooter, he embraced the thrill of marksmanship with enthusiasm. Additionally, Brent found joy in nurturing his vegetable garden, constantly tending to it with care, and relished keeping his lawn pristine. Brent was also a regular at Anytime Fitness.
Brent was deeply involved in his community. He was an active member of the Moose Lodge, the Meshoppen Gun Club, the Black Walnut Hunting Club. His faith and commitment to service were reflected in his involvement with Nativity of the BVM Church, where he volunteered his time and skill in making pierogis.
He cherished every moment spent watching his children play sports and celebrating their accomplishments. Above all, Brent's pride and joy were his granddaughters. In his unique way, Brent often expressed his love through the phrase "out here".
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Melissa Ransom and companion Jack Sershen; son, Eric Ransom and wife Jeanele; brothers, Richard (Skip) Ransom and wife Paula, Brad Ransom; sisters, Brenda Lanham and husband Archie, Renee Hunsinger and husband Jim; granddaughters, Ophelia, Nova, Hannah, and Laurel; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by step-father, John Carpenter; sister, Carol Ransom.
Family and friends are invited to attend Brent's Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024 at 10:00 AM from Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 99 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 to be celebrated by Rev. Patrick Albert. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock with full military honors. Friends are asked to go directly to the church on Monday.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Brent's memory to the American Cancer Society AstraZeneca Hope Lodge, 110 W. Laurel Ave., Cheltenham, PA 19012.
