Catherine (Simone) Reed, 88, of Clarks Summit passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14th at Delmar Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Delmar, DE. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, George Donald Reed Sr., owner of Reed Well Drilling Company, Clarks Summit.
Catherine was born in Scranton to Michael and Mary Cannon Simone on April 27, 1936. She grew up in South Scranton, PA and was a 1954 graduate of St. Mary of the Assumption High School. She was employed for 25 years at Specialty Printers as a press operator and made many lifelong friends there. Later in life, after earning her CDA Credential, she worked as a Child Development Associate for Head Start in Scranton and enjoyed caring for "her kids".
"Kay" was a joyful person who loved her family and friends and was a devout Catholic. She loved line dancing, music, visiting with family and friends, shopping, and travel. After moving to Delaware in 2010, she continued to develop new and lasting friendships and stayed vibrant and active well into her eighties.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Reed Zakrewsky and husband, Victor of Seaford DE; son, G. Donald Reed Jr. and wife, Margaret of Phoenixville; a sister, Mariann and husband, Peter Dubiac of Clarks Summit; four grandchildren, Stephen Zakrewsky, Michael Zakrewsky, Jack Reed and Sarah Reed; and 4 great-grandsons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church Clarks Summit, Pa. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends and family may pay their respects on Friday from 8:50 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
