Charles R. Martin, Clarks Summit, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2nd at Abington Manor, surrounded by his family. He was married for 59 years to his loving wife and best friend Ruth (Tamblyn) Martin.
Born in Elmhurst, NY on May 2, 1942, he was the son of the late Charles and Martha (White) Martin and the stepson of the late Charles Shanholtzer. He was a graduate of Lynbrook Academy and the Academy of Aeronautics with a degree in Aircraft Maintenance and was a proud Navy veteran. He was in sales for many years and ended his working career driving special needs students for Abington Heights School District.
He enjoyed his hobbies including flying RC airplanes, model railroading, restoring vintage cars, and antiquing as well as sailing every summer on Lake Wallenpaupack for many years. He was a man of great faith and longtime member of Clarks Green United Methodist Church.
He was a loving and caring father to his three children: Robert (Nicole), Bonnie (Gerry) Cruz, and James, his two grandsons: Braden and Evan Cruz, and his loyal dog and companion Coko. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family and long remembered for his great sense of humor.
The family would especially like to thank the kind and caring staff at Abington Manor and Compassionate Care Hospice for the special care, kindness, and friendship they shared with us. The family also thanks Colleen Moran for the love and care she provided for Charles.
A celebration of life will be held at Clarks Green Methodist Church on October 10th.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles' memory may be made to Clarks Green United Methodist Church (119 Glenburn Rd, Clarks Green, PA 18411) or to Tunnels To Towers at T2T.org (2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306).
