Clara Mattocks

Clara Elizabeth Mattocks, 84, of Tunkhannock went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Gerald Mattocks, Jr. in 2021.

Born on July 19, 1939 in Tunkhannock, she is the daughter of the late Walter and Martha (Furman) Squier. She grew up on her family farm in Russell Hill, PA. She graduated from Tunkhannock High School in 1957 and spent several years as a bookkeeper for Gay Murrays.

Clara took great pride in her family and was devoted to her friends. She cherished every moment spent with loved ones and made it her priority to create lasting memories together.

Clara used her gifts for music and biblical knowledge in ministry at church, serving as the pianist and Sunday School teacher. She also played for nursing home residents bringing comfort to many.

Clara's devotion to serving God extended beyond local worship services. She was a member of One Mission Society. She and her husband embarked on many mission trips to Ecuador together. Clara was also, an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

One of Clara's favorite pastimes was watching her grandchildren play sports. She also supported her family's farm and attended cow shows.

With her farm upbringing, she was a strong lady and enjoyed maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She was a regular visitor to her local Pivot, where she was known for her dedication and ready smile.

She is survived by son, John Mattocks and wife Susan; daughter-in-law, Lisa Mattocks and sister-in-law Joyce Mattocks; grandchildren, Luke, Emily, Benjamin, Caleb, Isaac Mattocks, Marcus Hernandez; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by son David Mattocks; infant son, Mark Samuel; and brothers, Arthur and Kenneth Squier.

Family and friends are invited to attend Clara's funeral service which will be held Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 11:00AM from the Community Bible Church, 327 State Rte 92 S, Tunkhannock, PA 18657 with Reverend Brian Dempsey presiding. Interment will follow in Prevost Cemetery, Tunkhannock.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 3:00-6:00PM from Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 and from 10:00AM until the time of service on Thursday at the church.
