Clare M. Osif

Clare M. Osif, 93, of Scott Township, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday evening, January 24. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Francis Osif.

Born November 20, 1929, in Blakely, PA, she was the daughter of the late Valentine and Elizabeth Wombach Chmielowic. Prior to retirement, she managed the senior center in Scranton and was involved with the Meals On Wheels program for 25 years. During that time, she and her husband ran an annual bus trip for local seniors to Wildwood, NJ.  The trip was sold out every year. In addition, she was a member of the Church of Saint Gregory and enjoyed attending weekly services until the last few years when she was physically unable to do so. Clare loved to cook, can and bake, making many things from scratch, with ingredients from her beloved garden.  She was an avid reader and could often be found in her favorite chair reading a novel. She also loved spending time outdoors and tending her flower beds.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Val Osif, Scott Township, and Frank Osif and his wife Rebecca, formerly of Scott Township; two grandsons, Michael Osif and his fiancé Brittany Matechak of Scott Township, and Cody Osif of Scott Township; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Leo, and Jimmy, and sister, Agnes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Church of Saint Gregory, 330 North Abington Rd, Clarks Summit, PA by Reverend John Lapera, pastor. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, Jessup. Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 pm at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
