Cody H. Brooks, 90, of Glenburn Township, died Wednesday afternoon, August 7, 2024 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.

Born on January 12, 1934, in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Carolyn (Hauser) Brooks. He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, Dickinson College where he was a member of the Mermaid Players and was elected to Omicron Delta Kappa, and Dickinson School of Law where he was Associate Editor of the Dickinson Law Review.

Cody was a trial attorney, joining Warren, Hill, Henkelmen & McMenamin in 1959 as an associate, and becoming a partner in 1963. He was Of Council at the firm under its present name Kreder Brooks Hailstone LLP since 2003. He was admitted to practice before the courts of Lackawanna County, the Pennsylvania Commonwealth, Superior and Supreme Courts, the U.S. Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He was a member of the Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, and American Bar Associations, and was President of the Lackawanna County Bar Association in 1978. He served as First Assistant District Attorney of Lackawanna County from 1969-1973. Cody was a member of the Trial Advocacy Faculty at Dickinson School of Law, and Lecturer for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and the Lackawanna County Bench Bar Conference. He was invited as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1981.

Cody was in the US Army Reserves, 465th Amphibian Truck Company, was a former member of Kiwanis International and the Scranton Club, and served as a past President of the Board of Trustees at the Waverly Community House. He was an active member of the Country Club of Scranton where he golfed in the Art Wall League. He was a life-long member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and its successor Covenant Presbyterian Church in Scranton. He was a trustee and an elder at both, and a frequent liturgist who was admired and well-loved for his speaking and singing voices.

Cody loved the theater and was active in high school, college, and community theater, both in acting and directing. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and dining with his many friends. Always a hobbyist woodworker, he became more involved upon retirement. Many family members and friends have his lovingly made furniture pieces and clocks in their homes.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Elizabeth "Betty" Brooks and sister Carolyn "Connie" Kidd Reed. Also surviving are a daughter Cydney C. Brooks and her husband Andras L. Pap, Arlington, MA; a son D. Cody Brooks and his wife Andrea E. Lourie, Bexley OH; sisters Susan Vining Brooks, Columbus, OH, and Leslie B. Jermyn Durant, Allentown, PA; and grandchildren Spencer C. Brooks and Zachary H. Brooks.

Friends and family may call at the church an hour before the memorial service, which will be held at 11 o'clock AM on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 816 Olive St., Scranton, PA 18510, with services by Rev. Jeff Hopson. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care, and the many friends and family members for all their love and support.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA.
