It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Constance "Connie " Leavesley, of South Abington Twp, Thursday morning at Geisinger CMC Scranton. Her widower is Charlie Leavesley. The couple would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on August 5th.
Born in Scranton on April 13, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Ruth Bortree and lovingly raised by the late Francis and Ruth Smith.
Upon graduating from Abington Heights in 1969, she attended York College of Pennsylvania where she obtained an associate's degree in medical office administration. She worked for over 40 years as a medical secretary.
Connie was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Chinchilla where she was a member of the choir for many years.
After retirement she gave a lot of her time volunteering for a nonprofit organization called Petals. When she wasn't working with flowers you would find her tending her vegetable garden outside or cooking in her kitchen for her family, neighbors and friends. One of her biggest joys in life was being with her beloved granddaughters, Cameron and Hunter. Connie selflessly devoted her life to her family and was a constant presence at every school activity and sport game.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Carole Granville and Claudia Rebuth and her brother Craig Smith.
Also surviving are a daughter, Heather Hemmerly and her husband Fred of Old Forge; a son, Bret Leavesley and his wife Sarah of Clarks Summit; two granddaughters, Cameron and Hunter Leavesley; a sister, Carol Ann Saar of Chinchilla and a brother, William Smith.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 3 pm at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home from 1 pm until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter or the donors favorite charity.
