Daniel N. Cassaro

Daniel N. Cassaro, 92, passed after a long courageous battle with cancer on July 17, 2025 at his home on Lake Winola.

He was born in Plainfield, New Jersey on January 28, 1933. He was predeceased by his parents, Helen Fedak and Daniel Cassaro.

Dan joined the Navy upon graduation from North Plainfield High School in 1951. He served honorably aboard a Navy destroyer during the Korean War. He would later recount the many countries he visited during that time, in letters to his "then" love...Pauline. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned to marry his beloved Pauline Hanzel in April of 1956. They shared an amazing life of over 73 years, and celebrated 69 years of marriage this past April. They have resided in Pennsylvania for 40 years, living alongside Dan's best friend of more than 80 years...Stan Malecki. They met in grade school and have been together ever since. That also is a testament to the kind of man he was.

Dan loved fishing, hunting, gardening but mostly golfing! He was an active and greatly loved member of the Scranton Canoe Club, enjoying countless days on the course and playing cards with "HIS GUYS"! In 2004, Dan was elected to the position of "Commodore" at the club, and wore his "Red Jacket" with pride. He considered serving that year an incredible honor, and spoke of it fondly in the years that followed. They will honor him with a Tournament named for him in the future.

He is survived by his beloved wife Pauline; his daughter Kathleen and her husband Mark; his sisters Margaret (Marge), Charlotte and Linda; his brother Gary; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

A "Celebration of LIfe" is being planned for this September.
