David J. Mikulka, 80, of Meshoppen passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rosemary (Sherman) Mikulka.
Born on December 29, 1943 in Kingston, he is the son of the late Joseph Mikulka and Dolores (Zenda) Root.
David attended West Moreland High School before embarking on a remarkable career at Procter and Gamble. For an impressive span of 30 years, he dedicated himself to the company's pampers department as a Tech 6.
David served his country with honor and distinction as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He valiantly served during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967. Recognized for his bravery under fire, David was awarded the Bronze Star "V" for valor and a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat.
David pursued various hobbies and interests that brought him great joy. He enthusiastically embraced the outdoor lifestyle; hunting and fishing were among his favorite pastimes. Additionally, David was known to be an avid golfer.
Every Wednesday evening held a special place in David's heart as he eagerly anticipated gathering with friends at Charlie's house for their regular card games. He was a member of the Wyoming County Dart Club where he forged lifelong friendships while enjoying friendly darts competitions. He was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 154 Montrose and the Montrose VFW.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Milissa Mikulka and husband Shane Yeust, Molly Brzezinski and husband Brian; son, David (DJ) J. Mikulka, Jr.; sister, Donna Brown; brother, Donald Root; aunt, Lorraine Cwalina; grandchildren, Mason, Haley, Logan Bullock, Christopher, Brendan, Lindsey, Andrew Brzezinski, Kaitlyn and Devon Mikulka; great-grandchildren, Amayah and Liam Bullock, Wynne Moore; his beloved kitty, LB.
He is preceded in death by his stepfather, Donald Root, Sr.; brother, Joseph Mikulka.
Family and friends are invited to attend David's funeral service which will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 11:00AM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 to be celebrated by Rev. Patrick Albert with full military honors. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the time of service on Friday.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center and hospice for the care and compassion they have extended to David and his family during this time especially his favorite home health nurse, Amber and physical therapist, Lee along with his friends, Josh Hunsinger, Griffin Bunnell, and Dan Alberson.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
