Dolores Heagy, 90, of Lake Winola, passed away on Tuesday March 1, 2022 at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. Dolores was born in Philadelphia PA on August 24, 1931 to the late Peter and Magdalena (Lapa) Meigio. She married her husband, Charles Thomas "Tom" Heagy, in 1954 while he was stationed in Philadelphia. She spent the next 14 years moving to different ports on both coasts until his retirement from the Navy in 1967. They decided to settle in Tunkhannock after visiting friends who lived there. Dolores was employed by Tunkhannock Area High School in the cafeteria where she enjoyed interacting with the students, teachers and staff. She changed jobs to the Tunkhannock Police as a dispatcher when they moved into the Warren St building. Tom and Dolores retired again in 1982 to Daytona Beach FL where they enjoyed exploring the various attractions offered. Tunkhannock called to them again and they moved back in 1986. Dolores went back to work, this time at Brick's in the deli/bakery. She loved creating desserts for customer's special occasions. Her final move was to Lake Winola where she made friends who brought joy and laughter to each other’s lives. Dolores had a zest for life and laughing at life's absurdities. She liked to garden, crochet and work the Sunday crossword puzzle. Dolores loved cooking and baking, and cake decorating. She is survived by their daughter, Pat Heagy of Bradenton FL, grandson Blake Karras, Bradenton FL, grandson Patrick Murphy, Esopus NY and son-in-law Sean Murphy, Esopus NY and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by son, Charles Heagy in 1989 and daughter, Carol Murphy in 2005, dog, Fluffernutter (her favorite child); brothers, Julian and Peter Meigio; sister, Lillian Meigio. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Pieta Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Lake Winola Fire Company, 1204 PA-307, Factoryville, PA 18419. Arrangements and care entrusted to Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
