Listen to Obituary

Donald I. Harris, Clarks Summit, passed away 05/21/2022. Surviving is his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 63 years, Esther (Thomas) Harris, whose heart is broken by the loss of her best friend and the love of her life, who she took care of in his last years.

Born in Scranton on February 3, 1937, he was the son of the late David and Mildred Harris. He was a graduate of West Scranton HS, where he was a 3-sport athlete, and Penn State University. He worked as a mechanical engineer at GSGS&B, owned his own company (The Clean Air Group), and at Highland Associates as the head of the Mechanical Engineering Dept, until he retired. He was a member of Jackson Street Baptist Church, West Scranton.

Don was a tremendous athlete playing football, basketball, baseball, racquetball, and he and his wife were both great golfers and long-standing members of the Scranton Country Club.

With a passion for sports, Don was a die-hard fanatic of the NY Yankees, NY Giants, and Duke basketball.

A perfectionist who took pride in everything he did, he was a deeply loyal friend and co-worker who adored his family and enjoyed every day of his life. He travelled the world - going tiger hunting in Venezuela, scuba diving, water skiing and making great memories at his cottage at Baylor's Lake, where he was an avid fisherman. His greatest enjoyment was watching and cheering on his grandchildren's activities, as all were amazing athletes. "Alright Alright".

Don was preceded in death by his brother, James Harris, and wife Marilyn Harris.

He is survived by his four children, David Harris and wife Rebecca, Dalton, and his granddaughters Kellie and Kasie; Karen Harris, Clarks Summit, and granddaughters Jolene and Joetta Hashem; Donna Koester and Husband Butch; Moosic and grandson Shawn Ward and wife Dana, and great-granddaughter Lacey; James Harris and wife Lisa, Wilmington, DE and grandchildren Bryan, Corey and wife Brook, Craig, Danielle, Caitlin, Nicole, and Evan and Great Grandson Kingston; a sister, Arlene Lefchak and husband George, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and a man's best friend, his dog Badie who recently passed and cat BB Jinx.
