Edmund W. Gruen (Murph), 93, of Tunkhannock passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at the Gardens at Tunkhannock. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris C. (Kessler) in 1991. He is survived by his second wife of 30 years, Doris B.

Born on June 7, 1930 in Peckville, he is the son of the late Edmund and Sophia (Szymkaitis) Grzywinski.

Murph dedicated his career to serving others. He retired from the A&P Store in Tunkhannock after 42 years of service. He was known as the "produce man" during which time he served in a number of positions including manager. He also worked for the Hallmark Card Company after his retirement. His dedication to his work was admired by coworkers and customers alike.

Murph was a 1948 graduate of Falls Overfield High School. Throughout his life, he remained committed to personal growth and was always eager to learn new things.

Murph's faith played a significant role in his life. He was admired for his unwavering faithfulness to God and his church. His commitment to his spirituality served as an inspiration to many. Beyond his professional achievements and religious devotion, Murph had a love for nature and the outdoors. As an avid rose grower, he cultivated breathtaking blooms and won numerous national championships from the American Rose Society. His talent and passion for gardening brought beauty into the lives of those around him.

Murph also had a proud military background, having served in the United States Marine Corps. He held this accomplishment close to his heart and spoke about it with deep pride. His service was a testament to his dedication and patriotism.

As much as Murph valued hard work and service, he also knew how to appreciate leisure time. The outdoors beckoned him, and he often found solace in nature's embrace. Additionally, he served as a Boy Scout leader nurturing the next generation with guidance and wisdom. His droll sense of humor will be remembered by all.

Throughout his life, Murph found solace in being an active member of the Mill City Assembly of God Church. The sense of community fostered within its walls provided him with lifelong friendships that enriched his life. He was also committed to serving and supporting the needs of the homeless, poor and shut-ins.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Daniel and Andrew Gruen; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by sons, Michael and Thomas Gruen; sisters, Eleanor Grzywinski, Norma Blee and Kasylda Gotschal.

Family and friends are invited to attend Murph's memorial service which will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Mill City Assembly of God Church, 167 Mercy Lane, Dalton, PA 18414.

Arrangements and care entrusted to Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
