Edward Mazaleski, 56, a beloved figure in the hearts of many, sadly passed away, due to complications, on Wednesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of Edward R. and Marjorie A. Kerrigan Mazaleski. He was an honors graduate of Riverside High School where he was basketball star. Edward continued his education, where he earned a Bachelors degree from the University of Scranton and Teaching certificate from Keystone College.
Edward was a man of diverse talents and interests. He touched the lives of many during his ownership of Mazz Kards and being a substitute teacher at Abington Heights School District, where he was known to many as "Mr. Mazz".
Beyond his professional achievements, Edward was a devoted family man. He cherished every moment with his partner of over 20 years, Virginia Paoloni, who also tragically lost her life earlier this week. Family gatherings were a source of immense joy for him, especially trips to Disney and North Carolina. He was an avid NY Yankees and Miami Dolphins fan and enjoyed the gym at the Dunmore YMCA.
Edward also harbored a deep passion for a variety of hobbies and interests. He was an investor and a true businessman, owning multiple commercial and residential real estate properties. Edward had an unforgettable bond with his son. They enjoyed attending sporting events, discussing stocks and numerous types of other investments, as well as spending time with Aspen, his son's German Shepherd.
Surviving is a son, Edward J. Mazaleski of Scranton; two sisters, Sharon Goldstein and her husband Philip, Kathleen Weiland and her husband Donald, all of Clarks Summit; Dr. John Lisiak, a lifelong best friend; an uncle, cousins, several nieces and nephews.
Edward's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his legacy of love, dedication and community spirit will continue to shine brightly. He will always be remembered as a loving father, brother, son, and uncle.
The family wishes to thank all first responders, especially Justin Basalyga and Darrell Silverstein, for their heroic efforts on the night of the flood.
