Edward J. "Ned" O'Malley, 86, of Tunkhannock, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Scranton, following complications related to Parkinson's disease. He shared 58 years of marriage with his wife, the former Margaret Mary Dillon.
Born on September 11, 1939, in Pittston, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary O'Malley. Ned was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, Pittston, and Lackawanna College, Scranton. He spent 40 years working in the banking industry, where he was known for his professionalism, integrity, and kindness. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree), Pittston, and served as past president of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Pittston. Ned also honorably served his country in the United States Air Force.
Cars and sports were among Ned's favorite pastimes, and he took great joy in traveling the country to watch his children and grandchildren compete. Above all, Ned was devoted to his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, E.J. O'Malley (Gabrielle) of Stafford, VA, and Molly O'Malley Watts (Andrew) of Leesburg, VA; and by his cherished grandchildren, Brady, Ryan, and Shane O'Malley, and Jack, Katelyn, and Hannah Watts, who brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister, Jeanne Randall, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary McHale, Joseph O'Malley and James O'Malley.
Ned will be remembered as the heart of his home, whose steady guidance, deep faith, and loving presence anchored his family.
Family and friends are invited to attend Ned's Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM from Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 99 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 E.D. Preate Drive, Suite 108, Moosic, PA 18507.
