Listen to Obituary

Edward Albert Osman, 78, of Dalton, PA passed away on May 11, 2022 in Scranton, PA.

Ed was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Albert and Winifred Osman on May 22, 1943. He moved a lot in his youth and went to various schools, but met his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Osman, at Abington Heights High School in Clarks Summit during his sophomore year. Ed and Betsy married on April 8, 1967 in Waverly, PA. He graduated with a Bachelors in Political Science from George Washington University and later received a Masters in History from Troy State University.

Ed served 23 years of active duty in the United States Air Force. His Air Force career took him to many places including the Pentagon, Ramstein AFB in Germany, Langley AFB in Virginia, and Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA where he taught ROTC. He was honorably discharged as a Lt. Colonel in 1990.  After his retirement, his love of history led him to become a re-enactor at historic Colonial Williamsburg, where he carried a musket and demonstrated cannon fire while in full colonial dress. He moved back to Dalton, PA in 1991 and served as the Athletic and Transportation Director at Abington Heights High School for several years before finally retiring.

Ed had a great love of gardening, transforming the yards of every house he lived in, including a beautiful rock garden out front of his Dalton home. In addition to his love of being outdoors, he also enjoyed collecting antique tools, refinishing and selling antique furniture, and bass fishing. He loved spending weeks with his family every summer at the Lake in Lakewood, PA. Nothing made him happier than having all of his kids and grandkids together under one roof.

He was a member of several clubs including the Lake Underwood Nimrod Club, the Lackawanna Historical Society, the Pine Hills Golf League, and his local Bonsai club. He also enjoyed serving on the Glenburn Township Planning Commission.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Winifred.  He is survived by his wife, Betsy, his son William (Elisa), his daughter Lara (Rob Berthold), his son Jeffrey (Andrea); his sister, Susan Pascucci (Bill); his grandchildren, Justin, Lydia and Timothy Osman and Kyla Berthold; as well as many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.  Ed will be sorely missed by all who had the honor to know and love him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either The Lackawanna Historical Society, 232 Monroe Avenue, Scranton, PA 18510 or the First Baptist Church-Abington, 1216 North Abington Road, Waverly, PA 18471.
