It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother. On February 2, 2024, Eleanor Elizabeth Carter of Clarks Summit, PA, was escorted by God's angels to her forever home. She was 102.

Born in Duluth, MN to German immigrants, she was the youngest of 5 children.
After graduating from Duluth High School, Eleanor moved to Washington, DC where she was employed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. There she met and married William Carter. With the arrival of their second child, Eleanor retired to homemaking. The family resided in Falls Church, VA; Kensington, MD; and Frederick, MD. William predeceased her in 1992.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved sewing, cooking, reading and crafts. In her senior years, she became an accomplished artist, winning recognition and many awards for her paintings. Eleanor moved to Clarks Summit, PA in 2005.

Eleanor is survived by her 4 children: Philip Carter, (Carla)Thurmont MD; Linda Carter Specht, (Jim) Clarks Summit, PA; Nanette Carter Lackey, (Wayne) Greencastle, PA; and Sandra Carter Hynes, (John, deceased.) Louisa, VA; 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Allied Skilled Nursing, Scranton, and Allied Hospice for their compassionate care.

A memorial Service will be held at Greencastle Bible Church, Greencastle, PA, with interment at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, MD. Details to be determined.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, Clarks Summit, PA.
