Eleanor Miller, formerly of Newton Township, died Monday at The Pines Senior Living, Clarks Summit. She was the widow of Loren Miller, her husband of over 66 years at the time of his his death in 2014.
Born in Newton Township in 1927, Eleanor was the daughter of the late William and Anna Bell Sherman LaCoe. She was a graduate of Newton-Ransom High School and Lackawanna Business College. Eleanor and Loren, along with their son, were self-employed dairy and produce farmers. They were members of the Scranton Cooperative Farmers Night Market for more than 50 years.
Eleanor was a founding member of the Newton-Ransom Volunteer Fire Company and was one of their first ambulance attendants. She was instrumental in bringing about the Newton Recreation Center and helped to set up its history room. In her younger years, she was a Cub Scout leader and a very active member of the Milwaukee Church, now the Countryside Community Church. Eleanor loved her family, her church, and her community. She will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Also surviving are her son, Charlie and wife, Brenda, Newton Township; two daughters, Sue Miller McDonnell and husband, Frank, West Chester; and Ruth Miller Griggs and husband, Joseph, Ransom Township; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Joseph, Charles, William Jr., and Donald LaCoe; and her twin sister, Esther Clark.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Countryside Community Church, 14011 Orchard Drive, Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. James Hollister, pastor. Interment will be private.
Friends may call on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
