Eleanor Samojlowicz, 81, of Waverly, passed away on Monday at Allied Hospice, Scranton. She was the widow of Adrian A. ("Andy") Samojlowicz, who died on November 7, 1990.
Born in Collingswood, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Lucy Lily Degler. Eleanor graduated with an associate degree from Temple University.
In 1978, Eleanor and Andy moved from suburban Chicago to this area. They enjoyed Broadway Theater and supported the Scranton Philharmonic Orchestra. Eleanor absolutely loved being a part of the Waverly community. She was a classroom art volunteer at Waverly Elementary School as well as the Waverly Community House in the attic shop and library and enjoyed being a member of the Waverly Women's Club. Eleanor was an avid tennis player, playing in many tennis leagues. She also loved gardening and being outdoors and was always up for a new adventure. She was incredibly proud of her children and her grandchildren and always looked to forward to attending their games, performances, and recitals throughout the years. Anyone who knew her knew her as a person who was sweet, kind, generous and, most of all, full of life.
Surviving are her two daughters, Tamara Druck and husband Edward of St. Charles, Illinois, and Laura Samojlowicz and her husband Jason des Bordes of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren Aleksander Druck and his wife Sara, Michael and Kevin Druck, Henry and Charles des Bordes; a twin sister, Lucille Jenkins, of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Degler, Jr., and Roy Degler.
A private funeral service will be held at Hickory Grove Cemetery.
