Elizabeth "Beth" Honan, of Scranton, passed away Monday afternoon at Geisinger CMC, Scranton.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Betty Jane Williams Weisenfluh. Beth was a proud graduate of West Scranton High School and the University of Scranton, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree, graduating summa cum laude. She went on to complete a Master of Arts in History, all while working full time as a nurse at Geisinger CMC. Beth dedicated 43 years of service to her patients and colleagues before retiring. She was also a member of Hickory Street Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Lou Mecca; brother- and sister-in-law, Dave and Ann Marie Zackoski; nephews, Josh and Elliot Zackoski and Alan Carroll; and nieces, Jane Mecca and Deborah Musgrave.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Weisenfluh; sisters, Pamela Zackoski and Deborah Lee Weisenfluh; brother-in-law, Joseph Mecca; and her faithful companion, Curly Joe.
Affectionately known as Beth or Bethie, she had a lifelong love of learning, reading, and travel. She cherished trips with friends and family, exploring destinations across the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, India, Israel, Turkey, and Jordan. Though she was widely respected as a nurse, her greatest passions were history and political science, subjects she studied deeply and could recall with remarkable precision.
Bethie was the matriarch of her family—a devoted sister and aunt—known for her strength in difficult times and her unwavering determination. She carried out countless acts of kindness in quiet ways, never seeking recognition, yet leaving behind a legacy of wisdom, care, and love that has been expressed so beautifully by those who knew her.
