Elizabeth Mchale Mears

Elizabeth McHale "Betty" Mears, 99, of Clarks Summit, passed peacefully on December 7, 2024 surrounded by family at home.

Betty was born August 1, 1925 in Clarks Summit, PA, the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Wright McHale.

Betty was a successful homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was employed for many years at the Scranton Lace Company as well as JC Penney and Athletes World. Betty retired in 1998. Betty was a member of the former Providence Methodist Church, Scranton PA.

She is survived by daughter Nancy LaFontaine of Clarks Summit, with whom she resided; son Arthur and Karen Mears of Olyphant, PA; daughter-in-law Renee Mears; grandchildren Michele Lafontaine and Erich Sitko, Nicole Mears, Marcy and Ted Ebersole, Mark and Tammy Mears; sister Virginia and Bob Savage;  several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews;

In addition to her husband Arthur Mears, she was preceded in death by son Frank Mears, grandson Matthew LaFontaine, brothers Edward, Millard, and Jerome; and sisters Romayne Anderson and Frances Shepherd.

A viewing will be held on Friday December 13th from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit. A service will follow at 7:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 14th at 11 a.m. at Newton Cemetery.
