Elsie Sopinski, 102, of South Abington Township, died on April 30th at Mid-Valley Health Care Center. She was the widow of Wilfred Ayers and Edward Sopinski, Sr.
Born in Newton-Ransom, she was the daughter of the late Anson and Loraine Antoine Miller. Elsie was a long-time member of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church and the VFW Post #7069 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, crossword puzzles, and was a wonderful seamstress and cook who loved to host family gatherings. She will also be remembered as an excellent gardener and an "avid weeder" who kept her yard immaculate. Elsie had a soft spot for Children's and Veterans' charities and supported several local food pantries.
Surviving are children, Rosemary A. Snyder and husband Robert of Whitehall, Edward H. Sopinski, Jr. and wife Karen of Clarks Summit, and Paul Sopinski and wife Mary-Lu of Taylor; grandchildren Gail S. Shochet, Robin S. Wilson, Matthew Sopinski and wife Shannon Fry, Sarah Sopinski and husband Kevin Kocak, Bradley Sopinski and partner Jessica Orloff, Paul Sopinski, Jr. and wife Kelly, Jason Sopinski, and Nicole Skorec and partner Josh Seamans; six great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sisters Edith Jakubos and Vida DeWitt Trivelpiece; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers Floyd, Loren, and Carl Miller; and sisters Florence Miller and Loraine Blachek Knight.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 am at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, with services by Pastor Adam Miller. Interment will follow at Miller Cemetery, Scott Township. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home from 10 am until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
