Enola Faye Hawk

Enola Faye Hawk, 86, of Overfield Twp., died Monday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. Her husband of more than 63 years is Edward R. Hawk.Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Van Auken and Marion Brace. She was the valedictorian of the class of 1953 Falls Overfield High School and a 1957 graduate of Bloomsburg State Teachers College.

Enola was an elementary teacher in the Clarks Summit and Mill City elementary schools and substituted at several other local school districts. She also managed the business aspects of her husband's longtime gas, towing and repair station, Hawk's Service Station.

She was a devoted member of the Lake Winola United Methodist Church, serving as treasurer, historian, clothing room volunteer, Bible school teacher and a member of UMW. She was also a member of the Senior Pinochle Club. Enola loved reading and playing games with her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Gail Thalacker and husband, Blake; and Ellen Christy and husband, Ted; son, Neil Hawk Sr. and companion, Lori Nguyen; granddaughters, Kira Thalacker and Erin Thalacker; grandsons, Kyle Christy, Brent Christy and Neil Hawk Jr.; sister, Carole Bartis; and brothers, Ralph and Paul VanAuken.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Bohr.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Lake Winola United Methodist Church, 326 Maple Drive, Dalton. Viewing will be at the church starting at noon.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lake Winola United Methodist Church or the Lake Winola Fire Company.
