Listen to Obituary

Francis Osif, 94, of Scott Twp., passed away Sunday morning at his home. Clare, his wife of 71 years, died in January of this year.

Born April 18, 1929, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Stracka Osif. Prior to retirement, he worked at Acme markets for 48 years at some local stores located in Scranton, Honesdale, Carbondale, Clarks Summit and others. In addition to working in the stores, he was a meat purchasing supervisor for a number of years. In addition to working for Acme, Frank was also a carpenter in his younger years and built his own home in Scott Twp., where he resided all of his life with his wife. During his later years and into retirement, Francis and his wife Clare ran an annual bus trip to Atlantic City and Wildwood, New Jersey. Frank's hobbies were hunting and fishing and he always looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Toledo Bend with his son Val and other family members. Frank also liked to garden and loved finding a good deal at an auction. Most of all, Frank loved to make kielbasa and other smoked and cured meats. He was a member of the Church of Saint Gregory.

He is survived by his sons, Val Osif, Scott Twp.; and Frank Osif and his wife, Rebecca, formerly of Scott Twp.; two grandsons, Michael Osif and his fiancée, Brittany Matechak, of Scott Twp.; and Cody Osif, of Scott Twp.; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Elmer; and three sisters, Helen, Mary and Ann.
