Listen to Obituary

Frank "Butch" Colombo, Jr. of Glenburn Township, died surrounded by his family on Sunday evening at Allied Hospice, Scranton. His wife of 65 years, Susan M. Colombo, preceded him in death just four short weeks prior.

Born in Glenburn, PA, he was the youngest of eight children born to the late Frank Colombo and Aurelia Marcheselli Colombo. He was a graduate of Clarks Summit High School class of 1952. He worked with his brothers, Wellington and Ernest, at Colombo Construction from high school until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1956. Butch and Sue's relationship withstood time and distance. When he returned home, they started their life together. Starting in the early 1960's, he operated the TBird Raceway Go-Kart track.

They both decided to take a leap of faith and created their future legacy, I.S.S. (Interstate Safety Service). Together with their sons Jeff and Chris, they ran the company that will continue on for generations.

In 1970, Butch and Sue, along with other friends, started the Abington Astros Junior Football team, currently known as the Abington Junior Comets. In 1975, Frank and Susan also bought a large truck dealership, Scranton White Autocar, built a new building on Keyser Avenue, and changed the name to Northeast Truck Center. They operated that, along with various other businesses in his lifetime.

Their true love and passion undoubtedly made all of their business ventures more like adventures of a lifetime, truly creating a life well-lived together.

Surviving are sons, Christopher Colombo and wife Diane, Jeffrey Colombo and wife Ruth; nine grandchildren: Jessica, Christopher Jr., Erik, Alexandra, Cassandra, James, Nicholas, Jules, and Jordan; five great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Everly, Beau, Ty, and Maverick all of Clarks Summit, PA; a brother-in-law, Jack Mennig and his wife Cathy; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Butch was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary and Ann Colombo, Madelyn Colombo Marzani and Mary O'Dea; four brothers, Eugene, Ernest, Dominick, and Wellington Colombo; nephews Patrick and Dennis O'Dea; and a niece, Katherine O'Dea Van Deusen.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, with services by Karen Rickaby. Interment will follow at Abington Hills Cemetery. Friends and family may pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
