Listen to Obituary

Frank "Burrhead" Hares, 77, of Nicholson, died Friday at Regional Hospital, Scranton. His wife of 54 years is Theresa Wesneski Hares.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Sally Baskwell Hares. He served in the Marines from 1963-1967, obtaining the rank of Sergeant.  Prior to retirement, he worked for the Clarks Summit Post Office for 31 years, where he received two Congressional Awards for his dedication. Frank was a lifelong member of the NRA and Safari Club International, as well as the state and national Trappers Association. Frank was a Freemason, Waverly Lodge 301 and formerly the Nicholson Lodge. He was also a Knights Templar and a Shriner.

Frank very much looked forward to the Harford Fair and won many blue ribbons for his apples. He would like to be remembered as a real woodsman who loved to fish, hunt, and trap. Spending time with his grandchildren meant more to him than life itself and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Also surviving are two daughters, Michelle Sibio and her husband Jeff of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Tracy Hares of Lake Sheridan; three grandchildren, Bryce Sibio, Courtney and Sean Dwyer; and a brother, Thomas Hares of Nicholson.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at LEY. Masonic Services will be at 3 pm, followed by military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Shriner's Children's Hospital, 3551 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140.
