Gene Bedell, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away on Monday evening at River View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wilkes-Barre. He was 100 years old. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Romayne Jacoby Bedell.

Born in Ransom Township, he was the son of the late Howard and Theresa Rosencrance Bedell.

A graduate of Newton-Ransom High School, he was a member of the Newton-Ransom Volunteer Fire Company, Lions Club, and the Milwaukee Odd Fellows Lodge. Gene was a Boy Scout leader, a Free Mason, and a member of Countryside Community Church, Newton Township. He was the owner/operator of Bedell's Agway Feed Mill and Store in Milwaukee for most of his life. In later years, he was employed by Met Life until age 79. He was a very hard worker and a man of his word who was always willing to help others. He was proud to live in Milwaukee, where he was raised. He was a good neighbor and active in his community.

Gene enjoyed all of these activities, plus his bowling league, hunting, horse shows, traveling, and working on home and yard improvements. He really loved his horses and especially enjoyed his special dogs. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. He will be missed.

Surviving are his two daughters: Carol Miller of Milwaukee, and Holly Flynn of Cookeville, TN; a grandson, Neil Gene Miller and his wife Kim; great grandchildren Nick Miller, Kelsey Miller, and Matthew Rosencrans; a sister, June Scott; and several special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his great grandson Jeremy, his sister Connie Degilio, and his brother Kenneth Bedell.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 8 th at 11 a.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit. Interment will follow at Milwaukee Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 7 th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. or on Wednesday, March 8 th from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

The family would like to thank the staff at River View Aspen Unit, the Activities Staff, & Compassionate Care Hospice for their care and support.
