Listen to Obituary

Gretchen Zeidler Miller of Camp Hill, PA, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz J. Zeidler (the former Mildred Hendrickson) died peacefully in the early morning hours of September 3, 2024.

Born in Scranton, Gretchen attended Central High School and Keystone Jr. College. After receiving her degree she worked as a Junior Women's Department buyer at the Globe Store in Scranton. Gretchen went on to work as the personal secretary to Governor William Scranton, leading her to Harrisburg where she met her husband Richard J. Miller (1922-2014) of Tunkhannock. They married May 15, 1965 in Scranton, settling in Camp Hill, PA to begin their family. Over the years, Gretchen and Dick made many friends and enjoyed a robust social life in Camp Hill. Whether at their home or at a fundraiser for local charities, Gretchen was known for being a detail-oriented hostess of elegant dinner parties and festive events. Her sense of interior design and decorating, especially with needlepoint decor created by her daughter, was her passion. Gretchen was a former member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Scranton, a member of Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, West Shore Country Club and of the Junior League of Scranton. She served on the board of Keystone College, was a patron and avid supporter of the Cleve J. Fredricksen Library, and dedicated her time to many other committees in both Camp Hill and Scranton. Gretchen also adored spending time at Lake Winola, where she, her sister, and her husband would play cards on the porch.

In addition to her husband, Gretchen was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Heidi Miller Crawford (1968-2012).

Gretchen is survived by her sister Kay Z. White, Dalton, PA, nieces Laurie W. Gumula (Les), Clarks Summit, PA, Gayle A. Bichler (David), Waverly, PA, and nephew Greg A. White (Diane), Forksville, PA, several great nieces and nephews, and her two devoted caregivers Carol Rosenberry and Christina Smith.

Gretchen's family would like to thank Sue Severino and Katie Clarke, as well as the staff at Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg for their dedication and care.

A private graveside service was held at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly, PA, with a Memorial Celebration to be held at a later date.
