Harriet Bernice (Golden) Vargo Himka, 95, of 1325 West Nicholson Road, Springville, died Friday April 21st at the Gardens in Tunkhannock.
She was born March 23, 1922, in Columbus, New Jersey, daughter of the late Whitely Meredith and Lillie Booth (Murphy) Golden, moving to Springville Township, Susquehanna County when she was 6 months old.
Harriet was a 1941 graduate of Springville High School, where she lettered in softball and track. As a young lady she loved raising ducks and working at her father’s feed mill. She worked at the Montrose Hanger Factory and later worked on the family farm in Lemon Township.
She attended the West Nicholson United Methodist Church.
She was a life member of the Wyoming County Historical Society; a 60 year member of the Union Grange #152; a member of the Tunkhannock Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and member of The Neighborhood Club.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Michael Vargo Jr., and second husband, Paul Himka; great-granddaughter, Cailene Radwanski; brothers Whitely M. “Coony” Golden and Travis B. Golden and sister Virginia Mitchell.
She is survived by daughter Paula Radwanski and husband Ron; step-son David Himka and wife JoAnn; grandchildren: Christine Radwanski; Thomas Radwanski and wife Kimberly,step-grandchildren: Joellyn Janesky; Jaimie Mirabelli and husband Jim, great-grandchildren: Stephen O’Connor and wife Nikki; Courtney O’Connor, step great-grandchildren: Dakota Janesky, Skyler Janesky, Layla Michaliga, David Haines, Chase Wenrich, Connor Wenrich, great-great granddaughter: Harper Jo O’Connor, Several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Wyoming County Historical Society, P. O. Box 309, Tunkhannock, PA 18657 or the charity of the donor’s choice
Those of you wishing to attend the funeral services for Harriet they will be held on Tuesday April 24, 2017 at 10AM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home 73. W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA. with Rev. Margie McCarty presiding. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery.
