Hildegarde Morgan

Hildegarde Morgan, 82, of Laceyville passed away Monday, October 27, 2025, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Gary Morgan.

Born on October 4, 1943, in New Haven, CT, she is the daughter of the late Henry and Ethel (Fichtmann) Baumann.

She was a 1961 graduate of Pocono Township High School. She attended Penn State University along with East Stroudsburg University ultimately receiving her degree from Misericordia University in social work and English.

Hildy was a dedicated piano teacher and a caring social worker for Interfaith Friends. Her commitment to her community was evident in her many endeavors, including starting a thrift shop through Interfaith and owning the bookstore Chapters. She was not only a mentor to many but also an inspiration with her tenacity and kind heart.

She was a founding member of the Dietrich Theater and actively participated in forming their non-profit to create classes and events for the community. Additionally, she shared her wisdom and insights through her writing, contributing a weekly column called "Getting Better" for the New Age, as well as a column for the Dietrich Theater. For years Hildy and her friend Jeanne Moran led a Writer's Group at the Dietrich Theater.

She was recognized for her contributions when she was named Woman of the Year for the Business and Professional Women. Hildy was also a devoted musician who played the piano for the Pocono Country Lodge. Her love for animals and nature shone brightly in her everyday life. Hildy was also known for her culinary skills and hosted numerous parties.

She was a shining star who changed a town and left the world a better place because of her life.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Dr. Shannon Stevens (Daniel Horvath); former husband, Jay Stevens; sister, Jennie Pitkus; niece, Amy David (Adam); nephew, Michael Pitkus (Kristen Werner); cousin, John Temps (Harriet); close friend, Erica Rogler (Omar Camacho); her book club members, and so many other beloved friends from Wyoming and Susquehanna Counties.

She is preceded in death by her close friend, Sandy Vieczorek.

Family and friends are invited to attend Hildy's Celebration of Life which will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 1:00 PM from the Dietrich Theater, 60 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657. Interment will be held in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.

A visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until the time of service on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Hildy's memory can be made to the Dietrich Theater, 60 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 or the charity of your choice keeping in mind that she loved animals.
