Inge Kaeb, born 1940, passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born in Bremerhaven, Germany, to Willi and Berta, and was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Peter Dannapfel.
Inge is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas Kaeb; her sister, Ursula Schirrmann of Bremerhaven, Germany; her children, Kristine (Kaeb) Morgan of Blakely, Eric Kaeb and his wife Janine of West Scranton, and Susan (Kaeb) Bennett and her husband, Charles Bennett of Pittsford, NY; as well as six cherished grandchildren: Dylan, Ethan, Emily, Charlie, Grace, and Molly.
Inge graduated from Bremerhaven High School and completed the German Retail Association program before immigrating to the United States. She became a proud U.S. citizen in 1968, a milestone she celebrated throughout her life. She worked for the Sauquoit Silk Mill, where her strong work ethic and attention to detail were evident. It was in the U.S. that she met her future husband, Thomas, and they were married in 1970.
Throughout their marriage, Inge devoted her boundless energy and love to raising her children and later found immense joy in her role as a grandmother.
Inge had a natural talent for gardening, transforming spaces into lush, vibrant havens filled with thriving plants. She also loved solving puzzles of all kinds, from intricate jigsaw puzzles to challenging word searches, and cherished time spent with her close-knit neighborhood friends. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Inge was a competitive, award-winning bowler, and avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Deeply connected to her heritage, Inge was an active member of the Scranton German Cultural Society, where she shared her culture and hosted exchange students. She was also a dedicated member of Trinity Congregational Church in West Scranton, contributing her time and culinary talents to the annual bake drives, where her Welsh cookies were always a highlight.
A celebration of Inge's life will be held on January 2, 2025, at Trinity Congregational Church, 229 S. Main Ave. The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 1:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
