J. Oliver "Ollie" Richards Jr., 86, of Clarks Summit passed away on Friday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. His beloved wife Nancy was by his side. The couple had been married 41 years.
Ollie was born in Scranton on September 24, 1936 to the late J. Oliver and Mary Kennedy Richards. He was a graduate of the Scranton High School, class of 1954. He served in the United States Navy, then transferred to the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania as an Aerial Engineer. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Turnpike for twenty-six years. He was also a member of the Chinchilla Hose Company, S. Abington Township, for over 50 years.
In his youth, Ollie spent summers at Lake Winola with his parents and continued to enjoy boating throughout his life. He also enjoyed camping at How Kola Campground in Dalton with his family and children.
Also surviving are a son, J. Oliver Richards III and his wife Gretchen; stepdaughters Lynn Cosner, Jill Nicolosi and her husband John, Gail Novak and her husband Robert; a sister Joann and her husband Carter; step-grandsons, a step-greatgranddaughter, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date in the Clarks Green Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Memorial contributions in Ollie's memory may be made to Chinchilla Fire Company or Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.
