James "Jim" E. Davis, 84, of Tunkhannock passed away Friday, December 22, 2023 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Martha "Penny" Farr Davis, in 2020.

Born on June 16, 1939 in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Charles Edwin and Beryl (Ford) Davis.

A 1957 graduate of Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD, he pursued a degree in political science at Dickinson College on an ROTC scholarship, then served his country as a Captain in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963. He met Penny, the love of his life, at Dickinson, and they married in 1961. At the suggestion of his father-in-law, attorney John B. Farr of Tunkhannock, Jim pursued a career in law and graduated from Dickinson Law School in 1966.

Jim dedicated his career to practicing law in Tunkhannock at Farr Davis & Fitze from 1966 to 2014. He was an intelligent man who worked hard to win cases and provide good legal advice to his clients. His impact extended beyond his practice, as he served the community as the Wyoming County District Attorney for 13 years. He concluded his career as the county solicitor.

He could often be found immersed in books about World War II history and gripping mystery novels. Jim was a big music buff, particularly jazz and R&B. Additionally, he was an avid Washington Redskins fan who supported his favorite football team, even during bad years. Tennis was one of Jim's passions, and he played well into his 70s. Although he liked to win, he was happy just to be out on the court as often as he could.

He is survived by son, Steven Davis; daughter, Blair Davis; grandchildren, Jake and Madeline Davis; brother, Benjamin Ford (Jane) Davis; sister-in-law, Jane Farr Ireland; nieces Jill Ireland (Jamie) Sweeney and Sarah Elizabeth Ireland; nephews Andrew (Stacey) Davis, Joshua Davis, and Luke (Anne) Davis and 5 great-nieces and -nephews.
