James Patterson

James A. Patterson, 76, of Tunkhannock passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Patterson in 2015.

Born on January 18, 1947 in Danville, PA, he is the son of the late Harry and Lucile (Hawkins) Patterson.

After graduating from Milton High School in 1964, James attended Thompson Institute, where he honed his skills and acquired the knowledge that would serve as the foundation for his successful career. In 1986, James opened the Carriage Inn Restaurant in Tunkhannock, which quickly became a cherished local establishment known for its warm atmosphere and delicious cuisine. For an impressive span of 22 years, James and his wife poured their heart and soul into running the restaurant and creating fond memories for countless patrons.

While James thrived as a restaurateur, his genuine kindness and compassion extended far beyond the walls of the Carriage Inn. He was revered for his unwavering dedication to helping others with love-infused support. Whether it was offering advice or lending a helping hand to someone in need, James never hesitated to make a meaningful difference in people's lives.

Apart from his professional accomplishments and acts of kindness, James also proudly served in the National Guard Reserves from 1968 to 1974. His commitment to protecting and defending his country exemplified his selflessness and unwavering patriotism.

Beyond work and serviceman ship, James held many passionate interests that brought joy to his life. He found solace working on old cars and trucks; reviving their lost glory was both a hobby and a testament to his masterful craftsmanship. Additionally, he had an innate talent for building and carpentry work that further showcased his versatility.

He is survived by son, Philip Patterson; daughter, Jamie Patterson; grandson, Michael Patterson.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by brothers, Richard and Larry Patterson.

James will be remembered as an incredibly warm-hearted individual whose smile could light up any room. His beautiful soul touched countess lives, leaving an indelible impact on the hearts of everyone he encountered. His unwavering dedication to his community, family, and friends will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Family and friends are invited to attend James' funeral service which will be held on Wednesday September 6, 2023 at 2:00 PM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA 18657. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.

A visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until the time of service on Wednesday.
