James Hatton, Sr., 73, died on Saturday at his home in Clarks Summit. His wife of over 52 years is the former Linda Sobeck.
Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Rev. Harold K. Hatton and Minerva Elizabeth Berger. He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves and a graduate of Bloomsburg University. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a computer programmer at Metropolitan Life for over 35 years. He spent his life in service, leading in many ways at Green Ridge Primitive Methodist Church and the Primitive Methodist Church Conference Trustee Board as Treasurer. James was also instrumental in the Abington Youth Soccer League, Abington Little League and was a fan of all Philadelphia sports teams.
Also surviving are his son, James Hatton Jr. and his wife Jessica of South Abington; two daughters, Rebecca Good and her husband James of Exton, and Tracy Roth and her husband Bryan of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren Zackary Guinup, Dylan Hamel, Conor and Samantha Hatton, Daniel and Andrew Good, and Savannah and Virginia Grace Roth; brother, Reverend Harold Hatton Jr. of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John Hatton.
A funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Green Ridge Primitive Methodist Church, 410 East Market Street, Scranton, PA 18509 with services by his brother. Interment will follow at Abington Hills Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 South State Street, Clarks Summit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Green Ridge Primitive Methodist Church or the Abington Youth Soccer League.
