James Wertman

James H. Wertman, 59, of Mehoopany passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Walters) Wertman.

Born on November 23, 1963 in Wilkes-Barre, he is the son of the late James Wertman and survived by his mother, Janice (Thompson) Wertman. He was a 1981 graduate of Dallas High School.

James had a fulfilling career as a school bus driver at Walters Transport since 2009. He took great pride in ensuring the safety and well-being of the children entrusted to his care. Beyond his role as a bus driver, James also served Lemon Township as a part of their road crew for an impressive 12 years

In addition to his professional endeavors, James was an entrepreneur who owned Vittles, formerly known as the Pink Apple, where he met his wife, Brenda. His dedication and hard work were evident in every aspect of his business. He built strong relationships with his customers through excellent service and delicious food.

Outside of work and education, James found joy in simple pleasures. He had a deep love for being outdoors and spent countless hours working in his yard, washing cars, and tending to his lawn. These activities brought him peace and contentment.

Throughout his life, James developed a passion for attending auctions. With enthusiasm radiating from him, he immersed himself in the world of bidding, finding joy in the thrill of discovery as he added to his collection. A special corner of his heart belonged to his vast array of matchbox cars, where he found joy in their intricate details and unique designs.

However, above all else, James treasured time spent with his grandsons. Being a family man was one of his proudest accomplishments. He delighted in sharing stories with them, teaching them life lessons, and creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Ryan and Joshua Wertman; daughter, Ashley Ell and husband Ryan; stepson, Dale Belles III; stepdaughters, Carissa and Christina Belles; grandsons, Elijah Wertman, Logan and Jackson Belles, Grayson Devine; sister, Janine Franklin and husband Kelly; brother, John Wertman and wife Jolene

James Wertman will be remembered as someone who always put others first. He touched many lives through his kindness and generosity. Those fortunate enough to have known him can attest to the positive impact he had on their lives.

Family and friends are invited to attend James' funeral service which will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 11:00AM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657. Interment will follow at Walters' Family Cemetery.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 4:00-6:00PM at the funeral home.
