Jane Marie Griffiths

Jane Marie Griffiths, 84, of Dalton, passed away on Sunday at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. She was the widow of William "Linn" Griffiths, who was her husband of over 65 years before his passing in November 2024.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Earl John and Ruth Sponsler Purcell. She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and, prior to retirement, worked as a Nurse's Aide. Jane was a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church, where she served for many years as a preschool and Sunday School teacher.

Jane was a beautiful woman and a faithful friend. She adored her husband, and deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and entire family. She took great pride in her family's achievements, and was happiest when preparing meals for her family, reading, and taking yearly vacations to the beach with her husband.

Surviving are son Darren and wife Amy of North Carolina; daughter Lisa Machell of Florida; son Douglas and wife Emily of Lancaster; grandchildren Rachel and Carley Griffiths, Mackenzie Machell and Eleanor Myers; nephews J. Stephen Fletcher; John Garvey, wife Sue, their children Erin and Adam; niece Ruth Nowicki, husband Jeff, and daughter, Ann Marie and fiance Aaron; nephew Robert Hartrim, wife Joanne, their children, Heather and Casey; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by sisters Margaret Fletcher and Shirley Houseman, grandniece Kelly Harroun, and grandnephews Corporal Robert Nowicki and Kenny Phillips, and beloved family cat, Aurora.

Words are not enough to express how much she will be missed and loved forever.

A funeral will be held at 1 pm on Saturday at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit. Friends may pay their respects from 12 pm until the time of the service.

Jane had a deep love of animals; in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter or a pet rescue program of your choosing.
