Jane Lewis Sherry, 97, of Tunkhannock passed away Friday, July 28, 2023, at the Meadows Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Dallas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald T. Sherry in 2014.
Born in Kingston on October 30, 1925, she is the daughter of the late Clarence and Gladys Horsfield Lewis.
Jane was a graduate of Kingston High School in 1943. She went on to further her education at Wyoming Seminary Dean School of Business, where she learned the skills that would shape her successful career.
Jane's professional journey led her to the Wyoming National Bank in Wilkes Barre, where she worked tirelessly for many years. With a strong work ethic and unparalleled dedication, she made significant contributions to the bank and earned the respect and admiration of both colleagues and clients.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jane had a deep passion for serving her community. In her spare time, she generously shared her talents by teaching crafts at the senior citizens center in Tunkhannock. Her patience and skill brought much joy to those she taught, fostering friendships, and creating lasting memories.
Jane was a member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church. Her strong faith was at the core of everything she did. She was actively involved in numerous church activities, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of comfort to those in need. Her unwavering commitment to her beliefs served as an inspiration to all who knew her.
One of Jane's proudest accomplishments was her regular donation of blood at the American Red Cross. Recognizing the importance of this lifesaving act, she selflessly gave part of herself to help others in their time of need. Her contributions undoubtedly made a significant impact on countless lives.
In addition to her professional achievements and community involvement, Jane cherished spending time with her family and friends. Her warm smile and kind-hearted nature created a welcoming environment for gatherings filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Sherry and wife Mary, Dave Sherry and fiancé Lisa Cummings; daughter, Donna Valvano and husband Will; grandchildren, Holly, Katie, Heather, Julia, Cynthia, Lance, Georgia; 7 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by son, Thomas Sherry; brothers, Robert and James Lewis.
The family would like to thank the Meadows Nursing Rehabilitation Center and Angelic Path Hospice for the care they extended to Jane.
Family and friends are invited to attend Jane's funeral service which will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 11:00AM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 with Reverend Tenny Rupnick presiding. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
A viewing will be held from 10:00AM until the time of service on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Jane's name to Triton Hose Company, 116 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 or the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church, 4 Church St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
