Janet Mae Taylor, age 91, of Waverly, passed away peacefully on October 26 at the Oakridge Nursing Facility in Taylor, Pa. Her husband of 68 years, Dr. Charles W. Taylor Jr. D.M.D., was by her side.
Born June 14,1932 in Harrisburg Pa, she was the daughter of the late Charles O. A. and Evelyn M. Smith Miller.
Janet and Charles met while attending Susquehanna University. They married on April 9, 1955.
After their marriage, they moved around while Charles served in the United States Coast Guard as a traveling dentist. They moved back to Scranton in the late 1950's to settle down and start a family. The family eventually settled in Waverly in 1974. They resided in "The Big Red House" on Evergreen.
In the mid-1970's, she started a business called Bittersweet Antiques and Crafts, located in Clarks Green. She hand-painted various wares and reverse paintings on glass and displayed them alongside her antiques. She bought and refinished antiques in the basement. Her youngest son Ross was her little helper and she passed the antique bug onto him.
Over the next decades, Janet and Charles traveled to towns all over the Northeast doing antique shows. She was a long-time fixture at the Waverly Antique Show and Sale. In the 1990's they, along with friends, imported antiques from England.
After retirement, Janet and Charles spent winters in Florida and traveled to far flung destinations such as Alaska, Europe and the Middle East, including the Holy Land.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit. She was a lifelong homemaker and caregiver. She devoted her whole life to her family, husband, three sons and others. Janet is a long-time breast cancer survivor.
She is also survived by three sons, Dr. Charles W. Taylor III and his wife Ellen of Taylor, Dr. Andrew Taylor D.D.S and his wife Tammy of Clarks Summit, and Ross Taylor, Justus. A brother Dr. Charles Miller M.D. and wife Trudy of New Jersey. Grandchildren Benjiman, Laura, Katie and her partner Tom, and Andrew.
A funeral will be Monday 9 at AM from the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, 300 School St. with services by Rev. William Carter. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst. Friends may visit at the church from 8 AM until the time of the service.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
